Barcode scanners enable fast and accurate code reading, making work in the warehouse, shop floor or in the field more efficient. These devices are similar to smartphones augmented with a scanner and physical keyboard. Their data is processed in applications that serve warehouses, stores or service technicians. The processing possibilities are wide ranging - from simple validations to complex operations within logistics and sales.
When choosing a scanner, it is important to consider several parameters: durability, durability, device size, scanning distance and speed, display size, connection method (USB cable, wireless) and, of course, overall ergonomics.
After the last conference, we received the C61 barcode scanner model from the manufacturer Chainway for testing. Let's imagine it together:

- Mobile barcode scanner
- Backlit numeric keypad
- Replaceable battery
- Charging via USB C or charging base
- Standard equipment: mains adapter, hand loop and charging cable
- Optional accessories: charging base, protective glass or rubber cover
What are our impressions of this device?
At first glance, this model looks very good - its shape and exterior design resemble the Zebra MC33 scanner. It has good plastic coating that should withstand a fall from your hand or from a pallet. We did not test the drop from a greater height, but neither did the Zebra MC33. The front side has a cover made of softened rubber-plastic.
As for the scanner itself, the supplier declares that it is a scanning mechanism from the manufacturer Zebra, which should guarantee good barcode scanning.
We have also looked at the basic parameters with which this device is equipped:
- Android 13.0 OS
- 4" high resolution, TN α-Si 800*480 display
- Display: Multi-touch panel, can be operated with gloves or wet hands
- 6700 mAh removable battery
- 2 SIM card slots, 1 TF card slot
- RAM: 3GB+32GB / 4GB+64GB
- Processor: Qualcomm 1.8 GHz Octa-core
- 13 MP Autofocus camera with flash
- Operating temperature: -20°C to 50°C
- Impact resistance: Repeated drop of 1.8 m (minimum 20x) on concrete over the full range of operating temperatures
- Repeated fall: 1000 x 0.5m falls at room temperature
- Industrial IP65 (IEC specifications)

Time for the test
We started testing the device in "laboratory" conditions, when testing in the office. However, we did not stop there - we decided to offer the device to customers who already have experience with the Zebra brand, specifically with the MC33 model. After a month of use, customers and their warehouse workers evaluated this model as follows:
Benefits
- significantly lower purchase price compared to the Zebra MC33
- rich standard equipment
Disadvantages
- slower scanning speed
- shorter sensing distance required

Overall customer rating
What do we say about the device after testing?
Taking into account the purchase price, which is significantly lower, we can say that this is a very interesting device.
It would be worth comparing it with the Zebra MC22, with which this device is slightly closer than with the Zebra MC33 series. However, if you are just starting out with warehouse process automation, this model will certainly suffice.
We currently have customers for several dozen of these devices, so it will be interesting to evaluate them over a longer period, for example after a year.
When we talk about the price/quality ratio, it looks like a very good chinese way.
